Comedians Elis James and John Robins have captured the hearts and minds of a generation, and it's time those hearts and minds had a book.Elis and John met in 2005 performing stand-up comedy in a pub called The Yellow Kangaroo in Cardiff. They eyed each other suspiciously before Robins offered the limpest handshake in the history of the world.'It was a power play,' says Robins. 'I may even have raised it for him to kiss.' James expands: 'It was one of the weirdest things I'd ever experienced, but having known John now for over a decade, it was the tip of the iceberg. I can honestly say he's the oddest man I've ever met.'Little did they know that 10 years later they would be presenting a radio show together that would make them comedy royalty.... Okay, radio comedy royalty... Okay, commercial digital indie radio royalty... But with a podcast! Now, The Elis James and John Robins' Show has become cult listening, and that cult has registered for charitable status, published quarterly accounts and been given a full blessing by the Archbishop of Broadcasting. It's official: Elis and John are a religion, and this book is their Holy Vible. Our obsessions make us what we are, and though you may never have addressed a will to Brian May or cried watching Ronnie O' Sullivan make a 147, you'll have done something similar, and Elis and John are here to tell you that you're not weird, so come on in, and taste the vibe! Or should I say, listen to the vibe! 1. Language: English. Narrator: Elis James, John Robins. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/orio/001828/bk_orio_001828_sample.mp3. In his first series, Miles Jupp is in the chair for eight episodes of BBC Radio 4's ever-popular topical comedy show. The News Quiz,'the finest topical comedy panel game known to radio', has been providing headlines, punchlines and a sharply satirical take on the news since it first aired in 1977. In the Caribbean Sea lie Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao, three little islands bathed in the tropical sun, filled with smells and sounds that whisper of long lost ties to another Continent. Here Papiamentu was born to become the mother tongue of those who called the islands home. The aim is to show how identities are portrayed in literature in the Caribbean. The late author Elis Juliana born in 1927 in Curaçao, has published over a dozen collections of poetry and short stories, and contributed extensively to children's writing in Papiamentu. His voice was heard for years on the radio where as Uncle Elis, he recounted stories in his mother tongue. He was also a distinguished internationally known visual artist. He asked Helene to translate a booklet called Aventura di un Kriki into English as he felt this work more than any of his others, depicted the nuances of Caribbean life. Hélène Garrett invites the reader to eavesdrop on "Antilleanness and Caribbeanness" and to hear the collective voice of a people deeply rooted in the colonialization, enslavement and emancipation of its speakers. With irony and humour Elis Juliana typifies the character and individuality of the Antillean.
