A valid CFD model is employed to show the impact on heat transfer of one-dimensional laminar non-isoviscous flow through pipe subjected to forced transverse vibration. Through transverse vibration, which produces the chaotic fluid motion and swirling effects, adequate radial mixing across the tube can be achieved which leads to the great addition in heat transfer. Thermal boundary layer developed more quickly and thus, temperature profile developed wilder than steady flow under the effect of vibration in both radial and axial direction, considerably for low Reynolds Number, as Reynolds number increases that effectively reduced. In this study, these impacts are quantitatively exhibited for Newtonian and shear-thinning liquid at various Reynolds numbers, and found that application of superimposed vibrational flow limited to considerably for small: Reynolds number and flow behavior index of shear-thinning fluids.

The development of vegetative and reproductive structures and life history of Laurencia sp. 1 (Ceramiales, Rhodophyta) had been investigated. The detailed observations of the developmental morphology and life history were undertaken based on field-collected and cultured plants. The materials used in this study show the tetrasporangia originate from a pericentral cell near the growing apex. The sporangia show a parallel arrangement along the axis of the branch and adaxially from the pericentral cell. Mature tetraspores developed into a reddish brown colour upright shoot with colorless rhizoidal filaments. The gametophytic plants are dioecious. Spermatangia or fertile trichoblasts originate from an axial cell near the growing apex and consist of repeatedly dichotomously branched. The spermatangial branches cultured with cystocarpic branches, and then ripe cystocarps formed. The mature cystocarp form a domoid-shaped pericarp with an ostiole, and release carpospores. These carpospores germinated and grew into erect shoot with colorless rhizoidal filaments.

On the Flow Induced Tip Clearance Noise in Axia...

The effect of unavoidable tip clearance in axial fans is significant since a large clearance does not only degrade the overall aerodynamic performance, but it also increases the sound radiation into the far-field dramatically.In this study comprehensive experimental and numerical investigations are conducted based on an impeller-only low pressure axial test fan in two tip clearance variations. Besides the overall aerodynamic and acoustic tests, the more detailed measurements of surface pressure fluctuations in the blade tip region show the footprints of the complex tip clearance flow. Various advanced numerical simulations, e.g. steady and unsteady Navier-Stokes based approaches as well as the Lattice-Boltzmann method are applied to understand the underlying 3D tip clearance flow field and its correlation with the acoustic field.Both experimental results and numerical predictions confirm the aforementioned well-known effects of an increase in tip clearance. The effect of a large tip clearance on the sound pressure spectrum is twofold: (i) an increase in the broadband floor and, (ii) specifically at lower volume flow rates, the appearance of pronounced narrowband humps. It is found that they result from the interactions of the impeller blades in the tip region with (i) the highly turbulent small vortex structures decayed from the tip clearance vortices during extending through the local blade passageand (ii) the global circumferentially coherent vortex structures, a superposition of circumferential modes of different mode orders, which rotate slower than the impeller blades.Based on these findings, a novel casing treatment is designed that is able to substantially suppress tip clearance vortex structures and hence significantly reduce the tip clearance noise.

The story of the materialist prince Paesi is the only larger legend common to Jain and Buddhist (Payasi in the Digha-nikaya) canonical literature and a rare sample of a lively dialogue. Its subject, the corporeality of the soul, is denied by the Jains. In contrast the Buddhists consider the "I" a fac on de parler for practical reasons. Modern brain research tends in favour of the Buddhist view of the ego as being impermanent and therefore an illusion created by the brain. The problem in this dialogue of Paesi with a Jain monk, which is set in the axial age of reflexion on and discussion of the soul (6th century BCE), but in its present literary form dates some centuries later, has therefore in two millennia not lost its actuality. Differently from the Buddhist version the story of Paesi ends tragically, after his conversion the prince is murdered by his wife. The single arguments in the discussion show many ancient Indian realia (birth ritual, diseases, etiquette, ethnic list of female servants, execution of thieves, regicide, 72 professions, similes etc.) which have been commented upon in the notes.

Conjugate natural convection combined with radiation in a vertical annulus with a centrally located vertical heat generating rod is studied numerically. The governing equations are discretised on a staggered mesh and solved using a pressure-correction algorithm for both Boussinesq and Low Mach number equations. A parametric study is performed by varying the Grashof number, aspect ratio, solid-to-fluid thermal conductivity ratio and overheat ratio over wide ranges. The interaction of natural convection with surface radiation is studied using radiosity formulation. Results are obtained for the local Nusselt numbers on the inner and outer boundaries, the axial variation of the centre line and interface temperatures, maximum solid, average solid and average interface temperature variations. The results show that simplification of the conjugate problem with heat generation by the prescription of an isoflux boundary condition on the rod surface can be inaccurate at higher aspect ratios and the solution of the conjugate problems is necessary. Correlations are developed for the Nusselt number and the dimensionless temperatures of interest in terms of the parameters of the problem.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2012 in the subject Engineering - Aerospace Technology, grade: "-", Indian Institute of Science, course: Aerospace Engineering, language: English, abstract: In this paper, the nonlocal elasticity theory has been incorporated into classical 1D-rod model to capture unique features of the rod like structures at Nanoscale, which are considered as ultra-thin structures, under the umbrella of continuum mechanics theory. The strong effect of the nanoscale has been obtained which leads to substantially different wave behaviors of nanoscale-rods from those of macroscopic rods. Nonlocal bar model is developed for nanorods. The analysis shows that the wave characteristics are highly over estimated by the classical rod model, which ignores the effect of small-length scale. The studies also show that the nonlocal scale parameter introduces certain band gap region in axial wave mode where no wave propagation occurs. This is manifested in the spectrum cures as the region where the wavenumber tends to infinite (or wave speed tends to zero). These results are also compared with the Born-Karman model and also with the second and fourth order strain gradient models. The results can provide useful guidance for the study and design of the next generation of nanodevices that make use of the wave propagation properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes.

The development of the quantitative TQM assessment model in large Philippine manufacturing companies involved the identification of indicators through concept mapping. The latent statistical relationships among the variables were examined using principal components analysis and multi- collinearity analysis. Categorized into four clusters, the levels of TQM adoption among the respondent organizations were found to be distinct and well-discriminated from each other. Multi-axial graphs of the various cases show that while there are some striking similarities across the sample companies, there are subtle differences that separate companies from one another. Four relevant indicators surfaced as predictor variables from a Multiple Linear Regression analysis. This exploratory work on large-scale companies shows that there is a need for organizing benchmarking efforts by looking at quantifiable variables as measures for continuously improving the competitive advantages of companies.

Investigation of Blades Failure for an Axial Fan

Axial flow fan blades are the important parts in ventilation and therefore an accurate estimation of the stresses, deformations and vibration characteristics are required in the design of the blade to avoid failure and obtain an optimum weight and cost. This work presents the numerical solution to estimate the stresses and deformations for steady-state and dynamic responses. Also, the analytical solution and experimental test carried out to investigate the vibration characteristics of the investigated fan blades. All formulation and computations are coded in FORTRAN-77. The dynamic response results were estimated by ANSYS/ 5.4 package. The numerical, analytical and experimental results are compared with the results in the previously published literature and MSC/ NASTRAN package, and the present results show good agreement.Many parameters such as speed of rotation, thickness, skew angle, pre-twist angle, disc radius, aspect ratios, type of alloy and the shape of cross-sectional area for the practical fan blade are investigated in this work. These parameters affect the design of fan blades and also different types of fan blades are studied.
