Luis Gutiérrez von Robert Parker's Wine Advocat schreibt über diesen Wein: „The 2016 Torroja Vi de Vila is the village wine that is bottled earlier than the others. The oak is neatly folded into the wine, which is quite fruit-driven and fresh but with clout—especially now that they have the Historic as an entry-level wine, this can show a little more complexity. The blend of Cariñena and Garnacha in equal parts works very well. The fruit is red rather than black, and the texture is silky, with very fine tannins and great acidity. It's very lively, aromatic and open, fluid, elegant and fresh. All the reds fermented with full clusters and indigenous yeasts, and this had a ten-day maceration with the skins and stems and then aged 18 months in an oak foudre. They only have five or six 500-liter oak barrels in addition to the oak foudre, and they use concrete more and more.” (Luis Gutiérrez, April 2018)

When you turn on the tap or twist the cap, you might not give a second thought to where your drinking water comes from. But how it gets from the ground to your glass is far more complex than you might think. Is it safe to drink tap water? Should you feel guilty buying bottled water? Is your water vulnerable to terrorist attacks? With springs running dry and reservoirs emptying, where is your water going to come from in the future? In Drinking Water, Duke professor James Salzman shows how drinking water highlights the most pressing issues of our time - from globalization and social justice to terrorism and climate change - and how humans have been wrestling with these problems for centuries. Bloody conflicts over control of water sources stretch as far back as the Bible yet are featured in front page headlines even today. Only 50 years ago, selling bottled water sounded as ludicrous as selling bottled air. Salzman weaves all of these issues together to show just how complex a simple glass of water can be. 1. Diese altehrwürdigen Rioja-Weine finden wieder stärkere Beachtung und der einzigartigen Winzerkunst wird mit der herausragenden Bewertung von Robert Parker's Wine Advocat eine tiefe Verneigung erwiesen: 'I have been terribly excited about this wine since I first learned that (part of) it was still in cement waiting to be bottled in September 2013. I consider the rare white Castillo Ygay one of the greatest white wines ever produced in Spain, and the 1986 Castillo Ygay Blanco Gran Reserva Especial is a great addition to the portfolio of the winery--an historic wine that is coming back to life. I did a vertical tasting of many of the old, historic vintages of this wine, and they are included in a separate article in this very same issue. This 1986 had seen the light as a limited early release bottled in 1992 and sold around 1995, and some bottles might still be found in the market. But most of it remained unbottled and was kept at the winery, where it stayed in oak for 21 years, followed by some six years in cement vats until it was bottled. It has 13.5% alcohol, an extremely low pH of 2.98 and 6.75 grams of acidity (tartaric). It has a very subtle nose and it's a bit shy, a little closed at first. It was only bottled one and a half years ago, and it's not crazy to say that the wine is showing extremely young. The wine shows more open the day after, when it has developed some nuances of mushrooms and verbena tea. This is mostly Viura with perhaps a pinch of Malvasía Riojana (aka Alarije). The palate is both powerful and elegant, with superb acidity and great length, with volume and sharpness, with a mineral, umami-driven finish. It fills your mouth, tickles your taste buds and makes you salivate. There is nothing negative about the wine; there is no excess oak, nothing blurry, nothing to improve... perhaps the bottle used! I think this is a perfect wine. It seems to be getting younger and younger with time in the glass; it seems to be getting more focused and...

Theo MacBain is known from coast to coast as a stonemason's mason, master of the art of finding the right rock at the right time. Word of mouth guarantees him all the high-end stonework he can handle. His face is weathered, his arms sinewed. Stones are easy, but people are hard. His ex-wife is estranged. His two grown children rarely call. When Hanson Blair, a troubled young woman with a sketchy past, apprentices herself to Theo, his solitude begins to show cracks. Theo and Hannie work hard at respecting the bounds of their friendship, while he steps out on thin ice with more age-appropriate prospects: a schoolteacher with bottled-up yearnings; a lawyer who reserves her ferocious passion for prosecuting domestic abusers. What is the right answer? In the end, after a lifetime of disappointment and sorrow, the master stonemason with the craggy exterior may be left with one saving grace: his foolish willingness to put it all on the line, expose his heart, and risk making one last mistake. 1. It's been three months since Abi Logan last checked in on Abbey Glen, the celebrated whisky distillery she inherited. With her oversize wheaten terrier, Liam, by her side, Abi returns to the quaint Scottish village of Balfour. But her relaxing Highland homecoming takes a stressful turn when she unearths an unseemly bit of village history, welcomes a group of Japanese whisky enthusiasts, and becomes shepherdess to an unexpected flock of sheep - all within the first 24 hours. Still, nothing's more stressful than murder.... Local celebrity Rory Hendricks is the hotheaded, hard-rocking former frontman of the Rebels - and Abi's girlhood crush. After meeting him in person, Abi can't say no to anything he asks, like photographing his upcoming show...or figuring out who's trying to kill him. Turns out someone's been bumping off his old bandmates, with the drummer dead under mysterious circumstances and the keyboardist in a coma following a hit-and-run. Now a series of threatening messages leads Rory to think he's next on the chopping block. And the band has a devil's share of broken hearts and bitter disputes in their past, leaving Abi a huge batch of suspects to sift through - all before the killer takes another shot. 1. She just buried her first husband after a battle with influenza, and she got a new husband to help her keep her ranch going. But her new husband, Peter, isn't cut out for the job at all. He's weak, and he's sick. Can he ever be more than a millstone around Hannah's neck? It's bad enough that she can't enjoy the intimacy of her good friends, Katie Matthis and Josie Eaton, the way she used to. Why does Hannah feel so guilty about her situation that she won't even confide in her dearest friends? They would help her if they only knew what's bothering her. But Hannah can't bring herself to share her burden with anyone. Peter's illness puts a strain on her she can hardly bear. Keeping her feelings and worries bottled up only makes them more unbearable by the day. Hannah would love to end this ill-fated marriage. She even plans how to do it. Peter misrepresented himself when they corresponded by mail about getting married, so Hannah may have grounds to send him packing. The only problem is she's starting to love him. Before she makes the biggest mistake of her life, Peter will show her he's not ready to roll over and die without winning her love for good. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Lawrence D. Yaklin. The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good Peop...

In a disturbing and revelatory exploration of the human capacity for evil, renowned psychologist Zimbardo examines how everyone is susceptible to the power of malevolence. He also offers hope and guidance, elucidating the importance of true heroism and disobedience. The definitive firsthand account of the groundbreaking research of Philip Zimbardo-the basis for the award-winning film The Stanford Prison Experiment Renowned social psychologist and creator of the Stanford Prison Experiment Philip Zimbardo explores the mechanisms that make good people do bad things, how moral people can be seduced into acting immorally, and what this says about the line separating good from evil. The Lucifer Effect explains how-and the myriad reasons why-we are all susceptible to the lure of "the dark side." Drawing on examples from history as well as his own trailblazing research, Zimbardo details how situational forces and group dynamics can work in concert to make monsters out of decent men and women. Here, for the first time and in detail, Zimbardo tells the full story of the Stanford Prison Experiment, the landmark study in which a group of college-student volunteers was randomly divided into "guards" and "inmates" and then placed in a mock prison environment. Within a week the study was abandoned, as ordinary college students were transformed into either brutal, sadistic guards or emotionally broken prisoners. By illuminating the psychological causes behind such disturbing metamorphoses, Zimbardo enables us to better understand a variety of harrowing phenomena, from corporate malfeasance to organized genocide to how once upstanding American soldiers came to abuse and torture Iraqi detainees in Abu Ghraib. He replaces the long-held notion of the "bad apple" with that of the "bad barrel"-the idea that the social setting and the system contaminate the individual, rather than the other way around. This is a book that dares to hold a mirror up to mankind, showing us that we might not be who we think we are. While forcing us to reexamine what we are capable of doing when caught up in the crucible of behavioral dynamics, though, Zimbardo also offers hope. We are capable of resisting evil, he argues, and can even teach ourselves to act heroically. Like Hannah Arendt's Eichmann in Jerusalem and Steven Pinker's The Blank Slate, The Lucifer Effect is a shocking, engrossing study that will change the way we view human behavior. Praise for The Lucifer Effect "The Lucifer Effect will change forever the way you think about why we behave the way we do-and, in particular, about the human potential for evil. This is a disturbing book, but one that has never been more necessary."-Malcolm Gladwell "An important book . . . All politicians and social commentators . . . should read this."-The Times (London) "Powerful . . . an extraordinarily valuable addition to the literature of the psychology of violence or 'evil.'"-The American Prospect "Penetrating . . . Combining a dense but readable and often engrossing exposition of social psychology research with an impassioned moral seriousness, Zimbardo challenges readers to look beyond glib denunciations of evil-doers and ponder our collective responsibility for the world's ills."-Publishers Weekly "A sprawling discussion . . . Zimbardo couples a thorough narrative of the Stanford Prison Experiment with an analysis of the social dynamics of the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq."-Booklist "Zimbardo bottled evil in a laboratory. The lessons he learned show us our dark nature but also fill us with hope if we heed their counsel. The Lucifer Effect reads like a novel."-Anthony Pratkanis, Ph.D., professor emeritus of psychology, University of California

An important reason for occurrence of diseases, especially those that are exogenous in nature, is the household characteristics. Members of the households that are endowed with better water and sanitation facilities generally tend to have lower incidence of diseases that are related to them. For example, occurrence of diarrhea among household members is directly linked with the use of clean water and hygiene. Over all conclusion is that higher percentage of household members have been suffered from all the diseases who have used tap, tube-well/hand pump and pucca well than those have used bottled, tankers, tank/pond, river/canal and others source of drinking water. The odds ratios show the unexpected results that who have been used tap water were more likely to be ailing than other source of water. Treated water is more helpful to control all the diseases. Study suggests that government should keen interest on safe drinking water for all sects of the population. Health education for household member which is related to water borne diseases and its control measures is utmost important.

Previous studies have shown that many people are dying in developing countries because of using unsafe drinking water. This study has been carried out at the National university of Rwanda in order to assess the quality of drinking water provided to students in the university restaurant. The evaluation was carried out with Petri-film counts method. The quality of the restaurant water samples were compared with three industrial-bottled-water marks produced and marketed in Rwanda (Inyange, Huye, and Nil) and with the tape-water distributed by EWSA. The microbiological results show that 3 out of 5 samples collected in the restaurant were contaminated with fecal colonies, giving a mean bacterial contamination of 4180 colonies/100ml, while the samples from EWSA, Inyange, Huye and Nil industries complied with US.EPA standards. The Petri-film counts result was confirmed by the standard plate-culture methods. The Petri-film counts method is thus sensitive enough to quickly help monitor the quality of drinking water. The Petri-films are also accurate to monitor the quality of milk and juice.

Geochemistry of European Bottled Water, w. CD-ROM

In Europe, ca. 1900 "mineral water" brandsare officially registered and bottled for drinking. Bottled waters isgroundwater and is in large parts of the continent rapidly developing into themain supply of drinking water for the general population. This book is the first state of the art overview of the chemistry ofgroundwaters from 40 European countries from Portugal to Russia, measured on1785 bottled water samples, equivalent to 1189 distinct bottled water brandsfrom 1247 wells in 884 locations plus an additional 500 tap water samplesacquired in 2008 by the network of EuroGeoSurveys experts all across Europe. In contrast to previously available compilations, all chemical data (containedon the enclosed CD) were measured in a single laboratory, under strict qualitycontrol with high internal and external reproducibility, affording a singlehigh quality, internally consistent dataset. More than 70 parameters weredetermined on every sample using state of the art analytical techniques withultra low detection limits (ICPMS, ICPOES, IC) at a single hydrochemical labfacility. Because of the wide geographical distributionof the water sources across 40 European countries, the bottled mineral, drinking and tap waters characterized herein may be used for obtaining a firstestimate of "ground- water geochemistry" at the scale of the EuropeanContinent, previously unavailable in this completeness, quality and coverage. The data published here allow for the first time to present a comprehensiveinternally consistent, overview of the natural distribution and variation ofthe determined chemical elements and additional state parameters of groundwaterat the European scale. Most elements show a very widerange, usually 3 to 4 but up to 7 orders of magnitude, of natural variation of their concentration. Data are interpreted in terms of their origin, considering hydrochemical parameters, such as the influence of soil, vegetation cover and mixing with deep waters, as well as other factors (bottling effects, leaching from bottles). A chapter is devoted to comparing the results from the bottled waters with those of European tap waters and previously published datasets. The authors also provide an overview of the legal framework, that any bottled water sold in the European Union must comply with. It provides a comprehensive compilation of current drinking water action levels in European countries, limiting values of the European Drinking/Mineral/Natural Mineral Water directives (1998/83/EC, 2003/40/EC, 2009/54/EC) and legislation in effect in 26 individual European Countries, and for comparison those of the FAO and in effect in the US (EPA, maximum contaminant levels [MCA]). The accompanying CD contains the extensive data sets, sample data (of 1189 different brands) and two previously published European water chemistry data sets.
